Project 2: Sense of Place

Lectures

Sense of Place
The Important of Observation :

  • Now, how does the designer "know" what imagery or content to include in the design? We understand that the client informs the designer of the purpose of the project but, when it comes to visual ideas, how do designer work?
  • This is where observation comes in. Being an observant means to be attentive to your surroundings, to say attention to the details and to be analytical about them.
  • For a designer, observation can be an effective way to get ideas. Sources of observation can stem from artifacts, daily happenings, physical surrounding, and such.
  • Observing is an active act of acquiring information, through the senses, of a subject matter in its natural setting.
  • Observation is important to designers as it enables them to see "problems", as well as getting ideas for solutions to those problems.

Sense of Place:

  • As shown in the example of the Island Bazaar, we can get the hint of an island life, the cool breeze of the air, the warmth of the sun all through careful observation and documentation of the designer's surroundings.
  • Besides that, you will also observe that suitable design principles are applied to create effective visuals in those instagram feeds of Island Bazaar.
How to know what should we make in this project:

  • Now think about the place you're in now, or a place you had spent some times at previously, or, a place that had created a lasting memory in you.
  • How do you express your sense of that place?
  • Start by documenting your observations -- photographs, diary, talking to relevant people, etc.

Visual Research
Fig 1.1 Visual Research

For the visual research i choose this because i think it really gave me feel about that place like i was in that landscape  and its a simple design but it have sense of place in there.

Practical
Idea of Exploration:
Fig 2.1 Referance

Fig 2.2 Referance
For my idea here i want to make like a lanscape that has mountain, river, and plants like the referance that i choose.
Fig 2.3 Progress

So here i try to make it more simple than my reference and the reasson i want to make this because i dont know why i really like quite place that have a beautiful view and i never go somewhere like that but i really want to go there so decide to make my own landscape that i really like when i imagine it.

Feedback
For this project we should know what things that we emphasis to make the viewer know what we make and they can feel what we design.

Reflection
For this Project i really enjoy when making the design, but at first i struggle to get the idea what should i make for this project and after i do some research i know what should i make for this and i learn that making sense of place design i need some reference to make it realistic and its a bit hard but overall i really enjoy the proses.
