LECTURES

01.04.2022 - Week 1

Mr Martin introduced us to the module and everything seems to be a little bit intimidating and challenging, however it also seems like this is going to be a fun course. He also mentioned group shooting so that'd be exciting. He explained we need a couple technical stuff like the software we'll be using and hardwares like headphones. 

For the first week :

• Watch stop motion shorts and shortlist 3 of them
• Also watch visual effect video and shortlist 3 of them 
• Explain both why they're chosen and post it in our blog

08.04.2022 - Week 2

Framing & Storyboard

Cinematography

• Motion picture/Film/Video is made up of many shots
• Each shot requires placing the camera in the best position for that particular moment in the narrative
• Shot is continuous view shot by one camera without interruption
• Sequence is a series of scenes, or shots, complete in itself
• Scene defines the place or setting where the action is laid
• May consist of series of shots or sequences depicting a continuous event

Shot Size 

Determines how large the area visible within the frame

• Wide shot
• A wide shot includes the entire subject and important objects in the immediate surroundings.
• Medium shot
• Gesture and expression, from the person waist up.
• Medium close-up shot
• Tighter than MS
• Midway between waist and shoulders to above the head
• A variant of this is Over the Shoulder (OS) → shows the subject from behind the shoulder of another person.
• Close-up shot
• Close-up is used to isolate the most important part of the subject. For a speaker, this is generally the head, or small object. It emphasizes facial expression, details of an object
• Extreme Wide Shot
• Shows a broad view of the surroundings around the character and conveys scale, distance and geographical location. It’s used to show where a character is in his/her environment.
• Medium Wide Shot
• Character cut off across the legs above or below the knees, wide enough to show the physical setting in which the action is taking place, it permits a nice balance of figure and surrounding.
• Extreme CU
• Single out a portion of the face magnifies a detail. The object is to focus on important detail either to increase the drama or impact on a situation or to allow the viewer to see necessary picture information more clearly.

Rule of thirds and Composition

Camera Angle : subject height

Usually you want eye level – contributes to the story-telling aspect

Screen Direction 

Dynamic : Moving from spot A to B on a flat screen (Left to right or vice versa) 

Static : follows 180 degree rule. 

When planning shots with two characters, you need to understand the camera movement in relation to the 180º rule.

15.04.2022 - Week 3

Plot segmentation -> to understand film's narrative system is to create a plot segementation, a scene by scene outline of the entire film

3-Act Structure

Act 1 - Introduce the world, the main characters, and establish the dramatic situation (plot point 1)

Act 2 - Known as 'Rising Action', to develop obstacles/complications and leads to climax of the story (plot point 2)

Act 3 - Ending of climax, answer to all obstacles/problems, tying the loose ends

22.04.2022-Week4

Storyboarding

Storyboard - When the scene has a complicated action involved or few perspective point of view, storyboard is the most effective way to map out the scene. 

Originally developed by Disney. These images/drawings are not static, there's a sense of motion to it.

Animatic

Animatic is defined as series of images played in sequence, often with a soundtrack. In essence, it's an animated storyboard.

Exercises

Week 1

For this week we learn about editing a random footage and we need to assemble it in adobe premiere pro.

Steps:

1. Download the footage https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wwRBWvPRQonTRY3YmAbumYNxMsTQwR32?usp=sharing

2. Create Premiere Pro new project.

3. Import footage into Premiere pro.

Week 3 

On our third week, we get a couple of assignments. First one being a dubbing exercise where we have to dub a scene from Soul animation movie.

For this week we must to watch "Munich" film and determined things.

Burrow

Act 1 : Scene 0:00 ~ Scene 00:20

Plot Point 1 : When the other animal show their home but the bunny shy to show hes home.

Act 2 : Scene when the bunny dig down to search a quite place that spate from others ~ Scene the bunny dig down so deep.

Plot Point 2 : Dig to make his home but the water leaks.

Climax : Scene when the bunny and the others animal dig to make the water avoid their house and to safe the other animals house.

Act 3 : Scene when the bunny ask other animal to help him ~ Scene the bunny make hes home near to other animals.

Guang

Act 1 : Scene at beginning ~ Scene until he introduce himself in interview.

Plot Point 1 : When the MC hear glass sound and get fired.

Act 2 : Scene when the older brother offer him a job interview.

Plot Point 2 : When the mc go to folow old lady to take the glass.

Climax : Scene when 2 brother fight.

Act 3 : Scene  when the mc playing with the glass.

Lalin

Act 1 : When lalin introduce herself until the she go study in japan.
Plot Point 1 : When summer she meet astronaut online to translate the book.

Act 2 : The main character be friends with the boy through chatting online.

Plot Point 2 : The boy arrives to Sapporo to meet the main character., but Lalin dont want to meet the boy.

Climax : When she look at the book and run to search the guy.

Act 3 : She starts to accept herself more and decides not to hide behind a fake appearance.

Munich

Act 1: When the group black September take hostage and kill Israel athletes at munich onlympics to when the main character join the operation to the kill terrorist.
Plot point 1: Anver and his team kill the first guy of the terrorist.

Act 2: Anver and his team meet a guy that give them information about the terrorist, and start to kill the terrorist 1 by 1 to the scene when they got to the same safe house with group Palestinians, but they end up in a shootout in the street, killing men they had talked to peaceably only hours before.

Plot point 2: When Anver finds out his friend get killed 1 by 1.

Climax: When Anver and Steve failed to kill salameh, and then they leave the operation.

Act 3: When the main character go back to Brooklyn and he feels like hes getting hounted by someone who want to kill him and his family.

Extra Question:
Story outline:
Theres a black September group take hostage and kill Israel atheletes at munich Olympics, after that Anver join Israel operation and meet his team in order to kill 12 named terrorist at Jeneva, Italy, Francis, and Beirut. After they kill the first terrorist they meet the third highest officer in the Palestinian government and gain information from them about the terrorist, and then Anver and his team begin to kill the terrorist 1 by 1, after they kill 7 of 12 named terrorist his team get killed 1 by 1 exept his friend steve, after that they went to kill the top name of their list but they failed and return to Brooklyn and leave the operation, but  after that Anver get paranoid think like someone is trying to kill him and hes family.

Describe the main character:
At the beginning hes a good man with his family, after he join the operation he begin to become murderer because he need to kill the terrorist with his team, so he became so brutal and paintless when killing the terrorist, after his friend getting kill 1 by 1 he begin to worry about himself and his family, after he get back home he start to paranoid like someone is trying to kill him and his family.

What is the character goal: 
At first hes trying to get a job to make money for his family, after he join the operation Anver goal is to kill all the named terrorist in his list with his teammate, after the last mission fail he came back to his family he goal is to protect his family and stay alive.

What Obstacles that he faced:
At first he strugle at finding the terrorist information, after he get the information he get struggle with the bomb that his friend make, because most of the time the bomb didnt explode and makes the assasinate mission get harder, after that he faced struggle when he want to kill the top name of the his list because his agent of CIA so they failed to kill them, and then when his friend get killed 1 by 1 and when hes going back to Brookly he faced feelings like hes getting hounted by someone who try to kill him and his family.
