Lectures

Historically, games were a luxury, the internet, your mobile phones. First Olympic games were a tribute. Cultural games such as gasing, or chinese chess, they were games that origins as a tribute.

Studying game creation and gameplays from:

  • The nature of games

  • Theoretical and conceptual perspectives

  • Cultural perspectives

  • Post-Modernism (cultural critique) → The phase we’re living now

    • Everything in question
    • Uncertainty
    • Sense of Identity, Existentialism → Questioning everything
  • Post-structuralist views (critique)

    • Critique of structuralist views
    • Cultural conditioning - biases
  • Simulacra and hyperrealism (redefinition) - Jean Baudrillard

    • models of real without origin - a hyperreality
    • hyperreal world - e.g. ‘Disneyland’

Game Violence Debate

  • Violent games have been blamed for violence → cannot be a proven cause-and-effect relationship betwen media violence and real violence
  • Contemporary research is most often interested in particular contexts for media use and looks for → games positive effects as well as possible detrimental consequences of digital play
  • Debate around violent games continue + many countries have introduced games-related legislation

Towards 3D Technology

  • The increase of memory and computing power is reflected when 8-bit games turned into 16- bit, then 32, then 64, then 128-bit
  • Home PC are capable with 3D graphics became widely available in 1990s

PC Strategy Game

  • Civilization (1992)
    • involves taking the role of controlling a civilization, building cities, developing new technologies and competing with other civilizations
    • Long game sessions

Components of Gameplay Immersion

  • 3 main components:
    • sensory immersion (sounds and interactive images of virtual space)
    • challenge-based immersion in the actions of play (Sometimes close to an optimal, ‘flow’ experience)
    • Imaginative immersion in the world of fiction in a game

Benefits and Disadvantages of 3D

  • find a game that has appeared in both 2d and 3d version → compare and give grounds whether 3d is beneficial or not in games
  • real time and turn-based → pick a game with either real-time or turn-based action; describe its core game mechanics and explain how the player experiences them temporally during play.

Week 1 
First week we have an offline class which we need to go to univ, in first week our lecture is explaining what is this module about and what task do we need to do for the next week.

Week 2
This week our lecture want us to make a group for our project in this semester, after we all gather in a group our lecture is want us to discuss about what game should we make.

Week 3
This week we show our task 1 which is personal game history and then showing our progress to our lecture about what game that we want to make and what that game is all about.

Week 4
In this week we can show our task 1 if we want, and then we continue showing our group progress this week our group managed to do the demonstration how the gameplay of the game will be and what the purpose of the game.

Week 5
This week I help my group by sketch some of the element for our game

Week 6
This I do task 2 and helping my group by sketch some of the element for our game

Week 7
This week I make the layout for our game in develop and making the mechanics that in the game

Week 8
Independent Learning Week

Week 9
In this week i do task 3 and still making the game layout and some of the mechanics in the game

Week 10
This week I make progress by completing the map

Week 11
This week I  finish task 4 for game studies, filling out the game document

Week 12
This week I finish task 5 for game studies and filled the game document and finalize our game

Week 13
This week I made progress by filling out the game document

Week 14
This week I input my blog to my group notion.


Reflection
This project is really fun to do and i enjoy the proses when making the game even tho there's a problem with the progress and sometimes with the communication with the group but overall its fun and challenging at the same time
